The Author


MARIO Rui Coelho TEIXEIRA, born in Lisbon on August 9, 1972, , academic professor, sports manager, sports leader and opinion maker.

He attended the University of Human Kinetics / Technical University of Lisbon, (Faculdade de Motricidade Humana/Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, FHM) where he graduated in Sports Science in 1996 and obtained by unanimous decision a Masters Degree in Sports Management in 2002. At present date he is nearing completion of a PhD under the guidance of the FMH and the School of Economics and Management (Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão, ISEG).

He widened his knowledge by participating in 150 seminars of which stand out three main courses. First being the Course of Sports Law in 2008 from the Institute of Legal and Political Sciences from the Faculty of Law of Lisbon University. Second being a Specialization Course in Higher Management in Public Administration in 2005 by National Institute of Administration. The third course was the Master of Sports Equipment and Facilities by Universidad Europea de Madrid (UEM) in 2004.

In professional terms he is an academic professor and researcher since 1999 for state universities and private universities lecturing in national and international postgraduate and masters degrees, in the following areas: Public Administration, Municipal Sports Management, Strategic Planning, Recreation and Sports Tourism, Olympism, Sports Public Policy, Sports Governance, Regional Development, Organization of Major International Events, Management of Sports Facilities and Sports Marketing.

On his Civic side he was co-founder and is part of the National Directorate, entity that promotes the process of administrative regionalization of the country in 2007 to 2008 and 2011.

Within the associative movement he is Vice-President of the General Assembly of the Portuguese Confederation of Sports since 2007 to present. He is member of the Plenary Assembly of the Portuguese Olympic Committee from 2003 to 2012. Member of the Board of Panathlon Club of Lisbon (2008-2009 and 2010-2011.) and Vice Chairman of the Board of the Portuguese Table Tennis Federation (2004-2008, 2008-2010 and 2010-2012).

He held a post as an autarchic leader in the Lisbon City Hall.
He was a member of the Advisory Council from the Portuguese Society 2004 (Euro 2004).

Throughout his career he was honored with many accolades, awards, distinctions, honorable mentions and public recognitions.

In the media he regularly writes about specialized Sports opinions for the press and is occasionally invited as a guest commentator on television stations.
